New Year’s Fashion Resolutions You Can Most Certainly Keep

The beginning of a new year is to us what Fashion Week is to people in the industry – a new beginning. There is absolutely no time like January 1st to place yourself comfortably in front of your closet and reflect on the choices made in the past. This is a time to clear out some of the foolish choices made impulsively and under the influence of fleeting trends, and make room for fresh and new items and styles. To that end, we have created the ultimate list of fashion resolutions that even the ones most resistant to change will happily embrace and totally be able to keep.

Spice things up

Monochromatic outfits and neutral hues filling up your closet certainly have their advantages – minimalists are some of the best-dressed people and they achieve it with such ease thanks to a plethora of garments that mesh well together. However, life is simply too short not to bring a little color to it. You don’t have to embrace a full-on bohemian style, but select a well-curated color palette of bright hues that are flattering and make it your goal to incorporate them into every outfit. These are bound to give you that pop of color and a bit of flair and pizzazz to your look, and trust us, once your world experiences a splash of color, you’ll never go back. As Pantone has named Ultra Violet the color of 2018, this is the perfect time to rock something in that powerful shade, and if you’re more of a timeless type, power red has never been more popular.

Indulge at least once

Yes, we know trends are fleeting but in the sea of all that appear during the course of one season, there is always at least one that speaks to your style persona. That is the trend that you should follow and spend some of your hard-earned money on an indulgent item or two. Whether it is the athleisure trend you’re tempted by, the checkered power-suits and double-breasted blazers, glitter boots, or mini bags – give into it. Now, this is definitely the year to go royal, and what better way than treating yourself to the coveted Meghan Markle bag, you deserve it. Still, be smart, don’t fall prey to every trend out there – pick one or two that actually go hand in hand with the style you’re fostering now and incorporate the current fad seamlessly.

Make use of everything

The general rule of thumb is – if you haven’t worn it for a year, it’s time to say goodbye to it. Once you’re done cleaning your closet you assume that what survived will be utilized. However, the one crime almost all of us are guilty of is putting the newest pieces in rotation and being oblivious to some slightly older ones. This needs to change. The one trick that will help you to achieve this is to refold frequently and put the items that are on the bottom back on top. You’ll be surprised at the number of great items you’ve become oblivious of.

Love thy body

This is perhaps the trickiest resolution to keep because we tend to be the most critical of ourselves. This absolutely needs to change. Just look around – plus size models and body positivity activists like Ashley Graham have taken the world by a storm and are changing our perception of beauty and shattering beauty standards as we speak. The best thing you can do is accept your lovely figure just as it is, and dress so that you look and feel good. It is precisely due to this new awareness and self-love that we now have so many options in terms of gorgeous plus size clothing – the industry has heard the voice of real women and is beginning to deliver. Your job now is to start appreciating your form and dress it in clothes that will make you shine.

Don’t buy it at all cost

You’re not 17 anymore, so it’s time to follow the ‘I’m not rich enough to buy cheap things’. If you haven’t already, it’s time to establish a style persona and stick to it. This means that you need to stop purchasing items that blend into your current wardrobe just because they’re on sale or simply ridiculously cheap. Hold off on shopping on a whim and save the money for timeless high-quality pieces that you will actually wear. Your future self and your wallet will thank you.
